Moose Lake Area girls hockey eighth grader Sage Gerard fights for good position against Hayward December 6.


Rebels beat Chisago Lakes Area

The Moose Lake Area girls hockey team beat Chisago Lakes 3-1 on December 4. The Rebels were outshot 26-23, but Kaitlyn Greene had a fine game in goal as she stopped all but one shot for a victory in net.

Senior Erin Mollberg had two goals for MLA. Senior Hannah Dougherty was the top point-getter on the night as she had an asssit on all three of MLA’s goals. Eighth grader Jessica Bird also had a good night with a goal and an assist.

There was no scoring in the first period.

MLA scored first in the second stanza. Jessica Bird and Hannah Doughertry had the assists on Mollberg’s goal for 1-0 at 11:35. Chisago Lakes was able to answer with a power play that came at 14:30 for 1-1.

Mollberg got what would stand up to be the game-winner as she scored, assisted by Dougherty, at 6:58. Bird added an insurance goal at 7:10, assisted by Dougherty.

MLA shutout by Hurricanes

The MLA girls were shutout as the Hayward Hurricanes stormed in town and took the Rebels 8-0 in a game on Thursday, December 6. Aly Tremblay of Hayward had an impressive six goals in the game before sitting out the third period.

Greene faced 38 shots in just two periods, stopping 31, before Cassie White played the third period in goal, stopping two of three shots. The Rebels put 16 shots on goal.

The Rebels are now 4-3 on the year. On Thursday, they go on the road to Silver Bay. Next Tuesday, they go on the road to face Hibbing before returning home Thursday, December 20, when they face Princeton.


Rebels fall to Aitkin

The Moose Lake-Willow River girls basketball team fell to the Aitkin Gobblers on Tuesday, December 4 by a score of 67-51. There were no details posted as the Rebels lost their first game of the seasaon.

Barnum nips Cromwell

The Barnum Bombers barely got by the Cromwell Cardinals on Thursday, December 6 with a 48-47 win.

Daron Mainville led all scorers with 22 points, including one three-pointer. Megan Nelson had nine points, including one three-pointer. Emily Miletich had seven points, including a three pointer. Cheyanne Johnson hit two three-pointers.

Bombers fall to Floodwood

The Barnum Bombers fell to the Floodwood Polar Bears on Friday, December 7 by a score of 51-40. Floodwood led just 20-17 at the break, but came on strong with a 31-23 second half to earn the win.

The Polar Bears put three girls in double digits to get the win.

Daron Mainville was the lone Bomber to reach double digits as she scored 14 points. Lissa Warpula and Emily Miletich each scored eight points. Warpula had two threes and Miletich had one three-pointer.
