Rebel boys win Section title, Andres named Coach of the Year

Josh Cisar, Michael Pender, Isaac Coil, and Jake Disterhaupt won the 4x200 relay and improved the school record.

With one event remaining the Moose Lake-Willow River boys trailed Esko by 3.5 points in the chase for the team title at the Section 7A championships held at UMD on Fri., June 1. The 4 X 400-meter team of Jake Disterhaupt, Isaac Coil, Ben Moonen and Josh Cisar took care of the task at hand in grand style, not only winning the event but doing so with a new school record of 3:30.96. The previous record dated back to 1980 and was held by Craig Peterson, Robert Filipiak, Gary Carlson and Dean Kuhlman at 3:31.2.

The final first-place 10 points pushed the Rebels past the Eskomos by 6.5 points with ML-WR taking the title with 87.50 points compared to Esko’s second-place 81 points. Furthermore, Rebels head boys coach Tony Andres, in his second year at the helm, was named Section 7A Track and Field Coach of the Year..

With Andres planning balancing the attack and the boys responding by agreeing to unselfishly take the events assigned for the team and performing in an amazing manner, ML-WR will be sending two relays and four individuals to the State Track and Field Class A Meet to be held at Hamline University in St. Paul on Fri., June 8 and Sat., June 9.

A check of the trophy case in Moose Lake revealed a Section 7A Champ trophy from 1999, a Sub-section 25 second place from 1997 and a District 25 Runner-up from 1982. There is now a large Section 7 Championship trophy to display and be very proud of.
