Moose Lake Willow River baseball boys faced McGregor on Tuesday, April 20, and Cloquet on Friday, April 23, both games at home. The seniors were still out due to COVID protocol. Rebels defeated McGregor 19-13 and lost to Cloquet 11-19. 

Caden Privette started the game on the mound for the Rebels. He surrendered six runs on three hits, striking out one. The Rebels scored three runs in the first. McGregor took an early lead in the top of the second inning, scoring six runs. MLWR batted through their line-up the next two innings, adding ten more runs on the scoreboard and took the lead for good. In the fourth, Logan Orvedahl (#5) doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, Sam Dewey doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs, and Privette singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Henry Ribich, Ethan Burton and Jimmy Walker, hit singles, Privette doubled and numerous walks accounted for six more runs in the sixth inning.  

Tyler Juhl, the winning pitcher, came in to relieve Privette in the top of third and pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out three. Ribich threw two and a third innings in relief. 

Privette, Ribich and Sam Dewey all had multiple hits for the Rebels. Sam Dewey led in runs batted in with 4 and Orvedahl had 2. The Rebels had ten hits, 17 stolen bases and left 7 players on base in the game. Ritchie Balute, Tanner Kircher, Walker, and Ribich got on base with a walk. Ethan Burton, Juhl and Luke Dewey each were on base with two walks and Orvedahl had three bases on balls. 

In the Cloquet game on Friday, both teams put lots of runs on the scoreboard, but Cloquet won 19-11. The Rebels took an early lead in the second inning when Ribich tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. In the sixth inning, the Rebels scored four more runs. Kircher, Walker and Sam Dewey each drove in runs.  

The Rebels had nine hits, left 7 runners on base. Orvedahl, Sam Dewey and Walker each had two hits. 

Burton started on the mound and took the loss. After three innings, Tyler Juhl pitched the fourth inning, and Orvedahl finished the game. Cloquet got 12 hits and 13 walks.  

The Rebels are scheduled to play Virginia at noon on Friday, April 30, on the turf field in Superior, Wisc. Tuesday, May 4, they will play Two Harbors in Moose Lake at 4:00 p.m.
