The Moose Lake Area Hockey Association Varsity Boys collected their first win of the season as they defeated the North Shore Storm team 6-2, Dec. 17.

The opposing team secured the first goal of the game about six and a half minutes in, but the 1-0 score only lasted a short four seconds, before Junior Forward Sam Knezevich matched the goal, assisted by Sophomore Forward Jaxsyn Schmidt.

A second goal was scored for the Rebels about 30 seconds later by Junior Defense Everett Gamst, assisted by Knezevich, bringing the score to 2-1 for the end of the first period.

The Rebels continued to score goals in the second period of the game, racking up three additional points.

The first scorer was Sophomore Dawson Fjosne, assisted by Gamst and Junior Forward Gavin Mlaskoch about three minutes into the period.

A second goal was scored for the other team at 8:23. Another goal was scored for the Rebels with five minutes remaining by Junior Forward Ryden Anderson. His goal was assisted by Knezevich and Schmidt.

Only about a minute later, a fifth goal was scored for the Rebels by Sophomore Forward Jordan Bird, assisted again by Knezevich and Schmidt. This brought the score to 5-2 for the end of the second period.

The third and final period of the game brought one more goal for the Rebels, scored by Schmidt, and assisted by Knezevich and Sophomore Forward Gavin Anderson.

The goal was scored with five minutes remaining in the game, and brought the game to a final score of 6-2.

The boys were definitely excited to win their first game of the season, and to prove that their hard work and determination had paid off.

Gamst said, “We had a rough start at the beginning of the season, but we had a decision to make: whether we wanted to be all in, or all out. We kept working hard in practices, showed up on Friday night, and we ended up beating North Shore for the first time in a long time.”

The boys are excited to win more games as the season continues.

You can see the Rebels next taking on the Mora Mustangs a week from today on Thursday, Jan. 6 at the Moose Lake Riverside Arena.
