Moose Lake Willow River’s softball team defeated Crosby-Ironton 12-2 on Monday, May 10. The next day, May 11, they were up at Esko’s field and won that contest 6-3. On Monday, May 17, they played a double header against Duluth East at the Willow River Softball Field winning 9-0 and 7-0. Tuesday, May 18, the players were guests at Robbinsdale Cooper and MLWR won in five innings 12-2.
Gabby Gamst hit a homerun at the Willow River Softball Fields against Crosby-Ironton in the six-inning game. The winning pitcher, Alexis Hoffman, pitched all six innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), 1 homerun, while striking out 8. Sarah Christy went 2-for-3 at the plate scoring 2 runs. Megan Hattenberger got 1 hit, walked 3 times and scored 3 runs. Game ended when the Rebels 10-runned Crosby-Ironton 12-2.
At Eskomos’s softball field the next day, winning pitcher Christy, pitched all 7 innings, striking out 8, walking 7 batters, and allowing 3 earned runs. Christ was 3-for-3 at the plate, batting in 2 runs. Sandra Ribich went 2-for3. Gamst only got 1 hit in her four plate appearances, but it was a homerun. Natalie Mikrot scored 2 runs and had 2 stolen bases. Final score was Rebels 6, Esko 3.
Duluth East lost twice in Willow River to the Rebels last Monday. Christy pitched the seven innings in the first game, striking out 9 East hitters, allowing 5 hits, no walks or runs. Hallie Klavu got 2 hits in 4 plate appearance, batting in 2 runs. Maci Kukuk and Lily Kahara faced the pitcher 3 times, getting two hits each. Mikrot batted in 2 runs. Klavu, Kukuk, and Kahara each had 2 stolen bases. Rebels won 9-0 in seven innings.
In the second game against Duluth East, Hoffman was on the rubber for the seven innings, striking out 7, walking 1. Kukuk was 2-for-4 scoring 2 runs. Klavu got credit for 2 runs batted in. Rebels won 7-0 in 7 innings.
The next day, the team bused to New Hope, Minn. to play at the Robbinsdale Cooper High School. The Rebels took care of business, winning 12-2 in five innings. Hoffman took the mound, striking out 5, walking 3, and allowed 2 runs. Kukuk was at the plate 4 times, getting 3 hits. Mikrot, Klavu, Christy Janna Bode, and Kahara got 2 hits.
On Thursday, May 27, MLWR will host Silver Bay for their last regular season game in Willow River at 4:00 p.m. Playoffs will start in June.
