The Bombers faced the Deer River Warriors, a 44-14 winner over Chisholm, in the section finals in Proctor at Egerdahl Field on Friday, November 5, at 7 p.m. The Deer River Warriors (10-0) won 32-8.

Barnum struggled in the first half, committing four turnovers. Barnum’s quarterback, Hayden Charboneau, found Joe Peterson in the first quarter, but Tygh Gullickson stripped it away from him. Deer River blocked a quick kick punt which led to a 27-yard Deer River touchdown. Charboneau threw another interception that resulted in a 35-yard Deer River touchdown. Caden Sheff scored for Barnum on a 59-yard run at the end of the first half. He also took it in for two after the touchdown.

In the second half, Barnum (7-3) made some adjustments and played much better defense. Willie Richardson was credited with a strip sack. The Barnum Bombers have turned things around in the football program the last two years. In 2019 they had a 1-8 football season.

Field position and Barnum turnovers were the keys to Deer River’s victory. Deer River will play New York Mills in the first round of the state playoffs in Brainerd at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 12.
