This week is National Newspaper week and I have been thinking about how in the last year I have learned a great deal about Open Meetings and the laws that govern them.

Every public meeting I attend has me learning something new about how Open Meeting Law works. This knowledge has come in handy, especially in our area in the last few months. Big issues in our communities have come up and it has never been more clear how important it is to support your local newspaper.

Now I know we can all get bogged down in requests for support. So I really would just like to ask for a tiny favor, if you hear of something that you think is important, newsworthy, significant, heartwrenching, heartwarming or grand happening in our communities please let me know.

Over the last year at the Star-Gazette I have made it a goal to rarely miss local government meetings. I do my best to cover every one that I can, while balancing out covering all of the wonderful community events in our area. But lately I have noticed that covering all of the local happenings might be a job that is just too big for one person.

Flying solo and covering an area from Mahtowa to Willow River is tricky to keep track of and this paper is here for you. Without your input I am taking a stab in the dark to make sure that what is important to you as readers gets on the pages of the Star-Gazette every week. Now for the last year I have been giving it my all, but there is always room for improvement.

I arrived in Moose Lake right along with the COVID-19 pandemic so getting out and about safely has been a struggle. With case numbers increasing and the rise of the Delta variant I am not sure what the future holds for safe meetings. I could really use your help making sure that the Star-Gazette is a community newspaper.

If you have something going on reach out to my email at editor@mlstargazette.com or give me a call at 715-600-1012.
