Two groups of four people laugh and talk as they hit a ball back and forth over a net on a tennis court in Moose Lake Township, but they’re not playing tennis. They are playing pickleball, a newer craze thats trickled into the northland in the last few years.

The Moose Lake Area Pickleball Club started three years ago, shortly before the pandemic. The group met regularly inside of the Riverside Arena several times a week until the city decided to charge a fee to rent the arena. The group grew as more people tried the lower impact game. Between the new rental fee and the pandemic, the club has stalled, but the core group still plays when possible.
