MLWR varsity baseball win two, lose two

 


Rebels fell to Greenway 3-2 on Tuesday, May 8, on their home field. MLWR was in it until the end scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn’t enough.

Dan Whited went all seven innings on the mound taking the loss. He allowed five hits and three runs, while striking out six. Greenway scored a run in the first inning on a wild pitch. The Rebels scored one run in the first inning when Ian Coil hit a double. Carter Klund also had a run batted in (RBI).

Mark Fossum went 2-4 at the plate to lead Moose Lake Willow River in hits. The Rebels had eight hits and only one error compared to Greenways three errors. Rebels left eight players on base. Remington Starck had a sacrifice fly.

The JV only played Greenway for one-and-one-half innings because of the cold rainy weather. Greenway was ahead 2-1. Drew Danielson was on the mound and Carter Johnson got the only hit and scored the run.

Moose Lake Willow River defeat Carlton 17-10

The Rebels traveled to the Chub Lake baseball field to play Carlton on Wednesday, May 9, in a steady cold rain.

Brendon Fogelberg got the win for the Rebels varsity. He went six innings, allowing 10 runs, on eight hits and striking out three. Mark Fossum threw one inning in relief.

The Rebels scored six runs in the fifth inning. Cooper Bexell, Fossum, Ben Dewey and Jordan Fjosne each had RBIs in the inning. The varsity racked up 16 hits. Fossum, Bexell, Dewey, Fogelberg and Remington Starck all had multiple hits for the MLWR team. Fossum was 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Rebels. Dan Whited and Fjosne each hit a double. All the rain made for some very messy slides and hard-to-get-clean uniforms.

The JV played four innings after the varsity game, winning 4-3. Carter Johnson was on the mound and went all four innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out six. Johnson, Vance Aho, Carter Klund and Dan Whited had one hit each. Aho, Johnson, Andrew Burn and Logan Privette had stolen bases.

MLWR travel to Aurora to play Mesabi East

MLWR varsity went to Aurora to play Mesabi East on Thursday, May 10. The final score was Mesabi East 10 Rebels 7. MLWR led 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth until Mesabi East scored six runs.

Carter Klund took the loss on the mound. He allowed six hits in three innings, striking out three and seven runs were scored. Mark Fossum finished the last three innings allowing four hits and striking out four. Remington Starck and Ben Dewey each had two stolen bases. Cooper Bexell had three RBIs. The infield had four errors. MLWR had four hits to Mesabi East’s 10 hits.

The JV played four innings, winning 10-0. Ben Dewey started the game on the hill and Cooper Bexell came into finish the shutout. Drew Danielson went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bexell, Brock Huard, and Logan Privette were each hit by a pitch (Huard was hit twice). Dewey and Carter Johnson turned a double play. There was only one error and six were left on base.

Rebels defeat Pine City 10-5

On Friday, May 11, the Rebels were host to the Pine City Dragons. Both teams scored one run in the first inning. In the fourth inning, the Rebels scored four runs and took the lead for good. Mark Fossum had a sacrifice fly scoring one run. Brendon Fogelberg doubled scoring one run and Ben Dewey singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

MLWR had 13 hits for the day. Dewey, Ian Coil, Ethan Meyer and Jordan Fjosne all had multiple hits. Dewey led with three hits in three at bats. Pine City had 10 hits for the day.

Coil took the victory on the mound. He allowed eight hits and three runs, while striking out nine. Logan Privette threw one inning to close out the game.

Meyer, Dewey, Cooper Bexell and Remington Starck all had stolen bases and Starck had three. The Rebels left nine players on base and the infield had six errors.

The JV played five innings after the varsity game and lost 4-3. Jordan Fjosne was on the hill and went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out three. Drew Danielson finished threw one inning. Vance Aho led the hitting with two hits in two at bats. Brock Huard, Carter Johnson and Drew Danielson each got one hit. The Rebels had three fielding errors.

On Tuesday, May 8, MLWR 7thand 8thgrade had a double header with Barnum in the rain. Barnum won the first one 14-10. MLWR won the second one 6-0. On Friday, May 11, they had a doubleheader with Pine City. Pine City won the first one 4-1. In the second game MLWR won 24-8.
