Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum Rebel Ethan Olson runs at the State Meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield November 4. Olson finished in 11th place.

The Minnesota State High School cross country race was held at St. Olaf College in Northfield on November 4.

With Moose Lake and the surrounding area receiving about two inches of snow the night before, it was a relief the line of snow and rain ended at the cities, leaving the course dry for running. The only drawback was the temps stayed around 39 degrees with a light wind out of the east, so most runners wore sleeves and leggings to help protect against the cold.

In the earlier races of the day, the AA girls race was won by Emily Covert, a junior from Minneapolis Washburn in a time of 17:30.1. The AA boys race was won by Khalid Hussein, a senior from Wayzata, in a time of 15:22.6. The A girls race was won by Tierney Wolfgram, a freshman from Math and Science Academy in a new state record time, for A, of 17:31.6. The A boys race was won by Matt Steiger, a senior from La Crescent, in a time of 15:44.8. All of the races had approximately 176 runners in them.

Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum cross country runner Ethan Olson was the only Rebel to make it to the State Meet this year. He finished in 11th place, just one spot from a medal, in a time of 16:24.4, which was his best time for the season.

This was Olson's last cross country race for the Rebels, as he is a senior, but he will be continuing his education and running career next fall when he attends college at the University of Minnesota Duluth and runs for the Bulldogs.
