Rebel Josie Benzie surpassed the 1,000 digs milestone for a school-record with a career-high 30 digs on Tuesday, October 17, in Moose Lake.

Moose Lake/Willow River avoided a sweep, but was unable to contend with a very good Carlton Bulldogs volleyball team's hitting and blocking as the Rebels fell 3-1 in Moose Lake on Tuesday, October 17. The set scores were 25-8, 20-25, 25-20, 25-15. Carlton improved to a record 21-5. It was only the second time the 12-9 Rebels lost to a Class A team this season.

The Bulldogs' top four hitters totaled 45 kills while MLWR's top four hitters totaled 21 kills. Carlton's leader on solo blocks, Allysan Hoeffling, had six.

Josie Benzie battled on defense and had a major accomplishment for MLWR. The senior libero shined as she surpassed the 1000-career digs milestone in style with a season-high 30 ups. It is believed that she is also the Rebels' career school record-holder for digs.

Lauren Pederson had six kills, a season and career-high 25 digs and she added one solo block. Jamie Benzie led the Rebels with seven kills and she added 18 digs. Maddie Olson was contained to five kills. Olson was the Rebels' top blocker as she had three solo blocks. DonnaMae Smith did her best to help out with kills and blocks. Smith was held to 21 set assists. Smith had three kills, one solo block and one assisted block with Olson.

Section 7A playoff action begins on Wednesday, October 25, at 7 p.m. with the third-seeded Rebels hosting the winner of the Wrenshall and Mercuries.
