Rebels boys slay Giants in five innings

Rebel Ian Coil had one triple, one single and scored two runs.

The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels boys baseball team was able to slay the Mesabi East Giants 13-3 in five innings in Moose Lake on Thursday, May 11. MLWR out-hit Mesabi East 11-5 and improved to a record of 5-9 while the Giants went 2-6.

Starting pitcher Brendon Fogelberg pitched two nearly flawless innings as he struck two and walked none while allowing only one hit and no runs. Nick Wegge pitched three innings and struck out two while walking three and allowing one earned run on three hits to earn the win.

The Rebels struck out only twice in the game. MLWR took advantage of eight walks, including two walk-in RBIs on five walks in its first at-bat against the Giants' first pitcher as the Rebels flew to an 8-0 first-inning lead.

MLWR had 11 players make the scorebook as follows in terms of hits, RBIs, runs scored and steals: Mark Fossum, one-RBI double, one-RBI single, fielder's choice RBI, run; Ian Coil, triple, single, two runs; Fogelberg, one-RBI single, single, two runs; Wyatt Lampel, single, sacrifice fly RBI, run; Wegge, single, three runs, two steals, Remington Starck, one-RBI single, run; Trent Juhl, game-winning infield hit-RBI; Cooper Bexell, one walk-in RBI, run; Danny Whited, one walk-in RBI, run; Eli Werner, infield hit, steal; and Jordan Fjosne crossed the plate with the game-winning run and he had one steal.
