MLWR Rebel Brendon Fogelberg allowed only two runs for a complete-game win in Barnum on Thursday, May 4.

The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels boys baseball team brought the bats and ran the bases to beat the Bombers 9-2 in Barnum on Thursday, May 4. MLWR had one home run and nine singles for 10 hits. Barnum had one home run, two doubles and three singles for six hits. The Rebels improved to 4-6 with the win.

Rebel Brendon Fogelberg pitched a complete game and trusted his fielders as he struck out only one and walked three. Fogelberg sprinkled six hits, including a pair of infield hits, for two earned runs.

Tyler Nynas pitched six innings for the Bombers and fanned seven Rebels while walking four and giving up eight earned runs. Cody Johnson pitched the final inning for Barnum with two strikeouts, one walk and no runs.

The Rebels gave the Bombers headaches on the base paths as they had 10 steals, including one steal of third and two uncontested steals with only one caught stealing. Barnum had no steals. MLWR juggled one infield ball for an error, but it did not cost a run. The Bombers also played good defensive baseball as they had just one error with that error costing only one run.

The Rebels spread the wealth as all nine of the starters got into the scorebook. The following represents MLWR's successes on hits, RBIs and runs scored: Wyatt Lampel, two-RBI home run, single, three RBIs, two runs; Mark Fossum, two singles, RBI, run; Cooper Bexell, two singles, RBI; Nick Wegge, RBI, two runs; Fogelberg, single, sacrifice fly RBI; Ethan Meyer, single, run; Jordan Fjosne, bunt single, run; Danny Whited, single; Remington Starck, two runs.

Colton Ziegler had a very good day to lead the Bombers. The Barnum bruiser blasted a solo home run and he banged two stand-up doubles. Ziegler scored both of Barnum's runs. The catcher also had an excellent defensive play as he quickly got back to grab a wild pitch off the backstop's bottom pipe, hustled back to the plate and stood his ground to stop a hard-sliding Rebel cold to save a run when MLWR was already on a 4-0 roll in the top of the second inning.

Ziegler doubled in the bottom of the second and advanced to third on a ground out by Connor Buell. Saul Myhre scored Ziegler with an infield hit RBI for 4-1. Logan McNulty had a single in the bottom of the third, but he was stranded.

Ziegler's other double was in the bottom of the fourth, but he was stranded. Myhre had one other infield hit in the bottom of the sixth, but he was stranded.

The Rebels got one run on three consecutive singles in the top of the fifth inning for 5-1. MLWR added three runs in the top of sixth for 8-1 and one run in the top of seventh for 9-1.

Ziegler's solo home run was the game's last score for 9-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
