Eden Prairie man drowns in Bob Lake

April 13, 2017

On April 6 at approximately 6:19 p.m. authorities from the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting that a 67-year-old male from Eden Prairie hadn’t been in contact with his family for a period of time.

The male, identified as Steven Richard Tickle, was at the family property around the Bob Lake area in Sawyer Township, Carlton County. Authorities learned a family friend had gone to check on the individual and couldn’t locate him. The friend did find a canoe approximately 40 feet away from the dock, submerged. In the canoe was the missing male’s dog. Deputies did get to the canoe, but couldn’t locate the male around the immediate area. They took the dog, who survived and was uninjured, from the canoe.

The Carlton County Sheriff's Office then contacted the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad for assistance in searching for the male. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad arrived and began using their specialized underwater search equipment. Within a short period of time, members of the rescue squad did locate the body of Tickle submerged in the lake.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the search by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Mahtowa Fire Department, Carlton Fire Department, Life Link and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad.
