Moose Lake Area girls win two on the road

 


The Moose Lake Area Rebels won 3-1 at the Chisago Lakes Ice Arena in Lindstrom on Saturday, November 19. Period-by-period the Rebels out-shot the opponents 13-8, 10-9, 13-7 for a game total of 36-24. Maddy Gamst earned the win in goal as she stopped 23 out of 24 shots.

The Rebels went 2-for-4 on power plays. Chisago Lakes was unable to score on its only advantage.

Sage Gerard had one goal and two assists. Jessica Bird had one goal and one assist. Abby Painovich had two assists to increase her season total to five assists. Lauren Pederson had one goal.

Bird scored a power play goal, with assists by Gerard and Painovich, for the first period’s only goal at 2:53.

Pederson scored a power play goal, with assists by Bird and Gerard, for the second period’s only goal at 1:58 for 2-0 heading into the third period.

Chisago Lakes avoided a shut out with an unassisted goal at 6:40. MLA capped off the scoring with a goal by Gerard, assisted by Painovich and Bird, for the final tally of 3-1 at 11:56.

Moose Lake Area shuts out Lumberjacks

The 18th ranked MLA Rebels should further climb in the ratings as they shut out the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks by a score of 5-0 at the Cloquet Area Recreation Center on Tuesday, November 22.

Gamst earned her first shut out between the pipes this year as the Rebels' record remains unblemished at 4-0. Gamst’s efforts improved her goals against average to 1.25 and her saves percentage improved to .941.

Shots on goal by period were 10-3, 7-8, 11-3 for 28-14, MLA, for the game. The Rebels converted on one of four power plays while the kill crew blanked the Lumberjacks at 0-for-4.

Over the course of the first four games, MLA has out-shot its opponents 127-85. The Rebels have out-scored the opposition by a total of 21-5.

Coincidentally, the Rebels' top three point-getters for the year were the same three girls to get into the game’s scorebook. Bird kept racking up points as she had four goals to bring her season totals to nine goals and four assists for 13 points. Gerard had three assists to improve to three goals and six assists for nine points. Pederson had one goal and one assist to improve to four goals and three assists for seven points on the season.

Moose Lake Area got the first period’s only goal on a power play effort by Bird, with assists by Gerard and Pederson, at 11:02. The was no scoring in the second period.

The Rebels rolled with four goals in the third period. Bird scored an unassisted goal at 1:51. Bird got her hat trick goal, assisted by Gerard, at 6:07. Pederson scored an unassisted goal at 10:14. Bird closed out the scoring by tacking on her fourth goal, with Gerard getting her third assist of the game, at 14:42 to polish off the 5-0 shut out.

The Rebels have a pair of back-to-back home games coming up. MLA hosts South St. Paul on Friday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Riverside Arena, Moose Lake. The Rebels have a game with Dodge County on Saturday, December 6, with a 5 p.m. early start time. Superior comes to town on Tuesday, December 6, at 7 p.m.
