Rebels junior varsity runners finish first

The Rebels boys junior varsity team tajes first place at the GNK Titan Invite in Coleraine on September 8. They are, front: Wheeler Anderson, David Webb, Mark Fossum, Michael Olson and Tim Vogt. On Thursday, September 8, the Rebels cross country team of Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum was in Coleraine for the GNK Titan Invite. Once again it was a beautiful day to watch the meet with temps around 72 and sunny skies, though a few runners commented it was a little warm for running, though that did not stop them from improving on last week's, as well as last year's, times.

In the junior high race, the top 15 received ribbons and ran a 2.5 kilometer course. Running for the girls was Lexi Korpela, 32nd in 11:58; Steph Maciej, 46th in 14:04; and Anna Molis, 50th in 17:35.

Racing for the junior high boys was Jonathon Danelski, eighth in 9:25; Grant Pettit, 34th in 10:20; Levi Granda, 65th in 11:30; Anson Vargo, 66th in 11:31; Sam Collier, 81st in 12:26; Carl Halverson, 83rd in 12:43; and Nathan Nyblom, 87th in 16:36.

The top 15 runners received ribbons and ran a 5 kilometer course for the junior varsity girls and boys. The JV girls had a second place team finish with Kelli Granquist fifth in 25:56, Meghan Granquist sixth in 25:57, Giannalisa Siebott 16th in 29:04, Lily Geil 18th in 29:45 and Alexis Oswald 21st in 32:36.

The JV boys team had a first place finish and received a cake for their efforts. The JV boys runners were Mark Fossum, first in 19:30; Henry Collier, second in 19:36; David Webb, third in 19:46; Tim Vogt, fourth in 20:13; Michael Olson, ninth in 20:49; Wheeler Anderson, 20th in 21:47; Maverick Koecher, 21st in 21:51; Levi Skelton, 35th in 22:58; Lucas Koecher, 36th in 23:04; Sam Stadin, 52nd in 24:37; Nate Jungers, 53rd in 24:41; and Spencer Lower 62nd in 25:48.

The Rebels varsity girls and boys also ran the 5 kilometer course and the top seven received medals and eighth through 15th got ribbons. The varsity girls team had a fifth place finish with Savannah Gamst 15th in 22:18, Sydney Bexell 37th in 23:51, Charis Blacklock 38th in 24:15, Laya Danelski 39th in 24:24, Lexi Tekippe 49th in 24:54, Coriella Sheetz 56th in 25:23 and Sophie Richardson 57th in 25:33.

The varsity boys ended the day with a third place finish with Ethan Olson first in 16:50, for a new school record, followed by Joe Bustrak fourth in 17:40, Tan Dipman 19th in 18:37, Jacob Danelski 32nd in 19:11, Lake Doran 33rd in 19:12, Aaron Bode 42nd in 19:25 and Danny Whited 43rd in 19:26.

The next scheduled meet for the Rebels was the Mora Invite at the Spring Brook Golf Course on Tuesday, September 13, then the J.A. Curran Invite in Grand Rapids September 20.
