'Warrant workout' day set for Aug. 25

On Thursday, August 25, the Carlton County criminal justice community is sponsoring a “warrant workout” event at the Carlton County Courthouse in Carlton. The event will offer anyone with an outstanding Minnesota arrest warrant an opportunity to meet with justice system officials and take steps to resolve their case. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors to the event will be able to speak with public defenders and prosecuting attorneys and arrange to pay any outstanding fines.

“Having an outstanding arrest warrant can lead to a lot of headaches,” said Amy Turnquist, Carlton County Court Administrator. “Anyone with an active warrant can be arrested at any time and will often face at least a night in jail if arrested. By coming to this event, individuals with an outstanding warrant can meet directly with a judge and other officials, figure out how to begin resolving their case and hopefully avoid facing arrest or other negative consequences down the road.”

Those interested in the event can call Carlton County Court Administration at (218) 384-9578 to verify their warrant status and to learn more about the event. The Carlton County Courthouse is located at 301 Walnut Avenue in Carlton.

The August 25 “warrant workout” event is a joint effort of many community organizations. In addition to Carlton County District Court judges, representatives from the following organizations will be on hand: Public Defender's Office, Carlton City Attorney's Office, Carlton County Attorney's Office and the Carlton County Probation Office.

More information about the event can be found at: http://mncourts.gov/Carlton-Warrant-Day.aspx.
