The Section 7A Track and Field Meet was held at Esko on Thursday, June 2.

Rebels sophomore Ethan Olson (pictured, right, with distance coach Adam Whelan) heads up a threesome of MLWR athletes who qualified for the state meet. Olson, the school record-holder in the 1,600-meter run, continued to lower his times and won the event with a new standard of 4:32.74. Olson also qualified by placing second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:14.09. Olson is the school record holder in that event at 10:08.51. It will be Olson's first trip to the state meet.

Freshman Kennedy Byrant will be competing in her third state meet as she qualified for the big show as both a seventh- and an eighth-grader. Bryant placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15-9. Bryant's season's best was tied for second in the Northland at 16-2.

Junior Sam Coil, who made the podium at the state meet last year in the shot put, will return in that event as he won the section title with a throw of 48-8. Coil's season's best was first in the area at 52-2. Unfortunately, despite a season's best of 147-5 that was good for third in the area in the discus, Coil was hampered by a nagging injury and was unable to qualify for the final flings.

The Barnum Bombers will be represented by Sophie Richardson. The eighth-grader placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.29.

The Class A State Meet will be held at Hamline University on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11.
