Rebels season ends at Esko

 


The Rebels season ended on Wednesday, February 24 at Esko as the Eskomos eliminated the Rebels in the first round of Sub-Section 1 7AA playoff action by a score of 68-31. The Eskomos, with three players in double digits, led 39-17 at halftime and moved on to the quarterfinals with a record of 24-3.

Junior forward Isaac Blue, who was recently named to the Polar League All-Conference Second Team, paced the Eskomos with a double-double as he had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Adam Trapp and Jaxon Turner scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Rex Janke, a senior forward, a Second Team honoree, led the Rebels with 10 points, including one of ML-WR’s three-pointers. Junior forward Isaac Riihilouma who was also named to the All-Conference Second Team had six points.

The Eskomos were conservative outside the arc going 4-for-10 (40 percent), but were quite a force on the inside at 22-for-39 (56 percent) for an overall field goal rate of 26-for-49 (53 percent). Esko added 12-for-23 (52 percent) on free throws. The Rebels were icy cold in the igloo on the three-pointers as they went 2-for-21 (9 percent). MLWR managed to go 10-for-30 (33 percent) in the paint for an overall field goal rate of 12-for-51 (24 percent). The Rebels added 5-for-7 (71 percent) at the stripe.

Esko was dominate on the boards, out-rebounding MLWR 42-27. The Rebels were scrappy on defense as they had eight steals to edge the Eskomos efforts of seven thefts. Esko served up 17 assists while MLWR had seven assists. Both teams did a good job of taking care of the basketball as the Rebels had nine turnovers and the Eskomos had 10 lost possessions.
