Nicole Tekippe and Sarah Michels run at the 65th annual Swain Invite in Duluth.

On Saturday, October 3, the Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum cross country team was in Duluth at Enger golf course for the 65th running of the Swain Invite. With over 50 schools and 2,000 runners present, it was about half of what the Milaca Mega meet was.

As stated last week the weather the last three years had been anything but enjoyable. This year the weather was a little windy, but sunny and 55 degrees. The course was in fine shape and many fast times were made. All runners agreed this year's running was much nicer than in the past.

Last year, the junior varsity girls came in 10th out of 10 teams. This year, out of 11 teams, they improved to seventh place. For the junior varsity boys, last year they were ninth out of 16 teams. This year they ended at sixth out of 11 teams. The varsity girls were 16th out of 25 teams last year and slipped to 17th this year, though it was out of 29 teams. The varsity boys also dropped from 11th out of 24 teams last year to 12th out of 29 teams this year.

All in all the runners showed improvement from last year as they seem to be doing in all the meets they have attended this year.

On Thursday, October 8, the Rebels will head to Hibbing for the Hibbing Rotary Invite at the municipal golf course.
