Rebels shut out Dragons

 


The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels football team traveled to Pine City and shut out the Dragons 24-0 on Friday, September 18. MLWR improved to a record of 4-1 and remains in a three-way tie for the Northeast Blue Division lead. The Dragons remain winless at 0-5.

Thomas Hansen led the Rebels by running for over 100 yards and scoring two touchdowns on runs of 70 and nine yards with his first score in the third quarter and his last score in the fourth quarter. Bryceton Butkiewicz was near the 100-yard milestone and had one touchdown on a four-yard run in the first quarter. The Rebels were successful on all three of their two-point tries with Butkiewicz on one of those and Wyatt Lampel with two conversion runs.

MLWR hosts the 2-3 Crosby-Ironton Rangers in Willow River on Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m. The Rebels play the Aitkin Gobblers for Homecoming on Friday, October 2 at 7 p.m. before finishing the regular season by hosting the undefeated and fifth-ranked Class AAAA Hermantown Hawks on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. for Parents’ Night.
