PCSO makes burglary, drug arrests

On July 26 at approximately 8:20 a.m. Pine County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) deputies were dispatched to Building 402 of the Willow Winds Apartment complex in Hinckley on a report of two suspicious males.

A resident of the complex reported seeing two males enter the building — one carrying a duffle bag and the other a laundry basket. The resident reported that when he went to check on the two males he found they had barricaded themselves in the laundry room.

The suspect males fled out of the building and from the area in a pickup truck with North Dakota license plates. The vehicle was located and stopped within minutes on Interstate 35 near the Beroun exit.

Subsequent investigation found the suspects were not residents of the apartment complex and had been breaking into the coin mechanisms of the washers and dryers.

In custody at this time on charges of burglary are Jason Edworthy, age 45, of Minneapolis and Tait Christensen, age 43, of St. Paul.

Drug arrests made

On July 28, Pine County deputies, along with the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol, executed search warrants in Sandstone for stolen property.

Recovered during the warrants was property taken in burglaries in both Pine and Kanabec counties. The property included a pickup, four-wheelers, a dirt bike and chainsaws. Recovered in one of the search warrants at a Sandstone residence was over 56 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, several firearms and over $9,000 in cash.

The search warrants stemmed from a Minnesota State Patrol Officer who had contact with a suspicious vehicle in Hinckley. The Trooper observed a suspicious male loading a four-wheeler into a truck near a local business. That investigation led to Kanabec County officers discovering the four-wheeler was stolen along with other items from two burglaries in Kanabec County.

The property was transported to locations in Sandstone after the burglaries.

In custody at this time in Pine County are Kirt Murray, age 43, of Sandstone and Jennifer Klier, age 38, also of Sandstone.

Charges against several others are pending in Kanabec County.
