Roadside birth for Carlton couple

A baby girl was born in the backseat of a vehicle in the early morning hours of March 27 en route to the hospital.

At 5:57 a.m. Friday, March 27, Carlton County Dispatch received a call from Justin Jahr of Carlton reporting his wife was in labor and he was bringing her to the hospital. Jahr requested to meet Carlton Ambulance at their station, however, labor was progressing rapidly and they had to stop their vehicle at the intersection of County Road 3 and County Road 101.

Carlton County deputies arrived on scene and were joined within a few minutes by Carlton Ambulance.

Shortly afterward, Jahr, who is a firefighter with Cloquet Area Fire District, helped deliver the baby girl in the back of their vehicle.

Baby and parents were then transported by Carlton Ambulance to Essentia-St. Mary's where everyone is doing well.
