Barnum Bomber Brandon Newman is congratulated at the December 16 game against the McGregor Mercuries on his achievement of breaking the school record for all-time scoring.

The Barnum Bombers boys basketball team hosted the McGregor Mercuries Tuesday, December 16. The Bombers won the battle 86-26.

The Bombers came out with a vengeance against the Mercuries, led by senior Brandon Newman. Newman found his stride with both the three-pointers and driving the lane as he put up 33 of the Bombers' first half points.

For the Bombers, Chris Carlson found some rhythm in the first half also, adding eight points. Mitchell Weller hit the long ball twice for six first half points, while Nathan Jelinek slid behind the defenders to add four points from under the basket. Dakotah Haley and Tanner Fuglestad both added a pair of first half points.

The Bombers jumped out to a 55-11 lead in the first half.

Newman slowed down in the second half, scoring only four points, while a host of other Bombers began to score. Fuglestad, Carlson, Blake Bonneville, Jelinek, and Mason Agurkis each scored five points. Haley added the final two points for the Bombers.

The Bombers coasted to an 86-26 victory over the Mercuries.

Newman also was acknowledged as the Bombers boys new all-time scoring leader with 1,790 points and climbing, surpassing the former record leader, Lance Redetzke, with 1,639 points.

Newman had surpassed Lance Redetzke's record several games earlier, but the Bombers waited to acknowledge the achievement until Redetzke could be present to congratulate Newman.
