Two-vehicle crash causes injuries
On Sunday, July 27 at noon, Carlton County 911 received a call of a serious crash involving two vehicles on County Road 61 just south of the city of Moose Lake.
An 87-year-old female, Phoebe Benson of Barnum, was traveling south on County Road 61 in a 2012 Chevrolet Impala. She made a left turn in front of a 1993 Ford Taurus that was traveling north. The Taurus was driven by a 31-year-old male, Randy Habisch of Sturgeon Lake. There was also a female passenger in the Taurus, 20-year-old Eryn Zebrasky of Bruno.
All parties suffered moderate to severe injuries and were originally transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. Zebrasky was air lifted from Mercy Hospital to North Memorial Hospital, Maple Grove. Habisch was transferred by ambulance to St. Luke's, Duluth. Benson was admitted to Mercy Hospital.
It does not appear alcohol, drugs or speed were contributing factors. There were periods of torrential rain while emergency responders were treating the victims, however, the accident occurred prior to the rain. Neither Habisch nor Zebrasky were wearing seat belts.
Any criminal charging decisions will be made after reports are completed.
The following agencies responded to the crash: Carlton County Sheriff's Office, Moose Lake Police Department, Pine County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota DNR Enforcement Division, Minnesota State Patrol, Moose Lake Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance, Cloquet Area Fire District, Essentia Health-Sandstone, North Air Care.
