Bombers softball hits the field

The Barnum Bombers softball team got the opportunity to hit the field for the first time this year. The Bombers took the ride to the Irish Dome in Rosemount to scrimmage against the Proctor Rails.

The Bombers returned all but one player this year, but now have a new coach, Katie Moench. Moench, the Bombers' girls basketball coach, signed on as the softball coach this year.

The Bombers scored first as Lauren Hultgren hit an infield triple to put her on third base, setting up the first score. The Bombers then went on the defensive, but the Rails drove two runs in to take the lead.

The Bombers again took the lead in the top of the fifth, but it was short-lived as the Rails again rallied and never looked back as they took the scrimmage with an 11-6 victory.

The Bombers are still unsure as to when the first official game will be played, as Mother Nature doesn't seem to want to give up winter.

The Bombers are bringing in a host of younger players this year, with some young talent coming up through the ranks.
