The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels varsity baseball team starts practicing, despite a good amount of snow still on the ground.

With practices in the gym and lots of snow left to melt, the 2014 Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels baseball team, under the direction of Matt Niedzielski, has released the varsity roster. Niedzielski, in his second season at helm, has Scott Battaglia and Bryce Rushmeyer returning as assistants. Assisting on a volunteer basis is Rebels alum Spencer Clough.

"We were 6-6 in the short conference season last year," recalled Niedzielski. "We won the first playoff game to get to the double elimination round and were the fourth seed. Our numbers this year are about the same on the varsity, but we have very good numbers among the junior high and that's always good for the future. We have about 30 junior high kids. Our first game was to have been April 8."

Battaglia took over and posted the pre-season roster as follows: Zach Christoperson, sophomore, catcher; Dean Flaherty, freshman, first; Brad Fossum, junior, pitcher, infield and catcher; Kody Gerard, junior, outfield, first; Jesse Granfors, junior, infield, catcher, pitcher; Hunter Halverson, junior, outfield; Justin Hibke, junior, outfield; Wyatt Lampel, pitcher, infield; Dylan Lovegreen, senior, pitcher, infield; Spencer Meyer, sophomore, infield, outfield; Chet Morgan, infield; Teddy Ryan, pitcher, outfield; JJ Sayler, senior, pitcher, infield; Zach Schwartzbauer, sophomore, infield; Joey Whited, senior, infield, pitcher; Brady Witkowski, junior, outfield; Kyle Zimmerman, freshman, outfield.
