Bombers take advantage of free throws to beat Rebels

The Barnum Bombers boys basketball team took advantage of their free throws to beat the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels 87-78 in Barnum on Tuesday, February 18. Although the Rebels put five players in double figures, the Bombers hit 21-for-32 (66 percent) of their free throws as compared to 13-for-17 (76 percent) of tosses for MLWR.

Both teams gunned away from outside the arc as a total of 61 bombs were taken between the two teams. Barnum went a good 12-for-27 (44 percent) on its long attempts, while the Rebels went a decent 13-for-34 (38 percent) on the long ones.

Barnum shot a very good 16-for-29 (55 percent) in and near the paint while the Rebels were a strong 13-for-26 (50 percent) in the lane.

Combining the twos and the threes, Barnum went a fine 28-for-56 (50 percent), while the Rebels hung in there tough with 26-for-60 (43 percent).

The Rebels out-rebounded the Bombers 25-22 in the game, but Barnum out-stole MLWR by 5-3. On the passes, it was MLWR with 10 clean assists while the Bombers kept pace with eight dishes for scores. The Rebels, after committing 11 turnovers in the first half but trailing only 41-36 at the break, settled down and had a very good second half with only two more lost possessions to wind up with 13 turnovers in the game. Barnum had an outstanding night taking care of the basketball as they had just three turnovers per half for only half a dozen lost possessions in the game.
