The Moose Lake Area boys hockey team waxed the Ely Area team 8-3 at Riverside Arena in Moose Lake on Friday, January 24. Bryceton Butkiewicz had a hat trick and four assists and Richie Parzy had a hat trick for the Rebels. The Rebels outshot the Timberwolves 47-37 and Gage Mohelsky had 44 saves for the win in goal.
It was the third win of the year for the Rebels, who went winless last year.
It was Devin Murphy, assisted by Alex Erickson, for the Rebels' first goal at 3:37. Jordan Drewlo and Butkiewicz combined at 5:37 for 2-0. Richie Parzy with an assist to Butkiewicz at 11:26 made it 3-0 after one period of play.
Butkiewicz got his second goal as he scored unassisted at 2:50. Parzy got goal at 3:14 and 3:30, which gave him the hat trick. The first goal was assisted by Butkiewicz and Drewlo and the second goal was assisted by Butkiewicz. Ely was able to get two past Mohelsky later in the second before Butkiewicz got his second goal at 6:23. It was a short-handed goal assisted by Murphy for a 7-2 lead after two periods.
Butkiewicz's third goal of the night came at 2:29, with an assist by Jesse Granfors.
MLA boys beat

The MLA boys hockey team was beat 10-2 by the WSFLG Blizzard on Tuesday, January 21. The Rebels were outshot 43-17 with Gage Mohelsky making 33 saves. Bryceton Butkiewicz had a goal and an assist. Butkiewicz scored with an assist by Wyatt Lampel. Jordan Drewlo also scored, with assists to Butkiewicz and Richie Parzy for 2-2.
For the season, Butkiewicz, a freshman, is leading the Rebels in both goals (19) and assists (14).

The Rebels boys hockey team was nipped 4-3 by Pine City-Rush City on Monday, January 20. The Rebels were outshot 46-21 in the game with Mohelsky taking a tough loss in goal as he made 42 saves. Bryceton Butkiewicz and Jesse Granfors had three and two point nights, respectively.
Pine City-Rush City got off to a fast start, putting three goals on the board in the first frame.
The Rebels fired back late in the next period with the only two goals in the second stanza. It was Granfors, on assists from Devin Murphy and Butkiewicz for 3-1 at 15:56. The Rebels got a power play goal by Butkiewicz, assisted by Joey Whited, with only for seconds left in the section period.
In the third period, the Dragons got a goal at the 6:00 minute mark for 4-2. The Rebels closed the gap to 4-3 as they scored on the power play at 9:45, with Butkiewicz scoring, with assists to Granfors and goalie Mohelsky.
Rebels ripped by Rails
The Moose Lake Area boys were ripped by a score of 8-2 by the Proctor Rails on Thursday, January 16. MLA was outshot 43-13 in the game with Gage Mohelsky taking the loss with 35 saves. Bryceton Butkiewicz had a two-point outing.
Butkiewicz got an unassisted short handed goal at 10:03 of the second period. Devin Murphy scored the second Rebel goal with Richie Parzy and Butkiewicz getting assists later in the second.
