Wall of Fame inductees announced
Richard Pionk and Jay Noren, both graduates of Moose Lake High School, are the inductees for 2014 into the Moose Lake Wall of Fame. Moose Lake Community Schools' Wall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Friday, February 7 during half time of the boys basketball game at Moose Lake High School, which begins at approximately 7 p.m.
Richard Pionk became a world-renowned pastelist (an artist who works with pastel colors) after graduating in 1954. He was named a master pastelist in 1984 and inducted into the Pastel Hall of Fame in 1997. His pastels have been exhibited worldwide in such places as the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, and Lincoln Center in New York City.
Pionk was an instructor and later became the president of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City. Pionk also taught and earned a degree at the Art Students League of New York and the Pastel School of the National Arts Club. He has been published in more than 10 art books, including Best in Pastel Volume 2. He won more than 100 awards from respected organizations such as the Allied Artists of America, the Audubon Artists, the National Arts Club, the Salmagundi Club, and the Pastel Society of America.
Pionk's talent and creativity has influenced many artists.
Jay Noren received BA and BS degrees from the University of Minnesota, MD degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, and an MPH degree from Harvard University. He was a research fellow at the Harvard Center for Community Health and Medical Care, Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow at the National Academy of Sciences and U.S. Congress, and a Winston Churchill Fellow in England and Scotland.
He has served in several university leadership roles, including President or Chancellor of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, Texas A&M Health Sciences Center, and Wayne State University; Vice Chancellor or Vice President at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Nebraska, and Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi; and Dean at Nebraska and Wisconsin. He served as a professor from 1976 to1999 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as professor at several other universities, including Texas A&M, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wayne State, and Khalifa University.
Dr. Noren has traveled the world and shared his medical expertise and leadership skills.
