Help available to pay heating costs
Colder than average weather and rising heat costs are once again putting a heavy burden on Minnesota residents. If you are struggling with heating related energy costs, the Energy Assistance Program at Lakes & Pines may be able to help.
The Energy Assistance Program helps low, moderate, and fixed income households to pay for part of their heating and electricity costs. To be eligible, a household must complete an application and document household income. Assistance is based on income, household size and actual cost of heating fuels for the previous winter. Renters with heat included in their rent, and residents of subsidized public housing who pay their own heating or electric costs may also apply. There are some exclusions.
Eligible homeowners may also be able to get help with furnace repairs. They must contact Lakes & Pines for approval before any work is done.
If you are a resident of Aitkin, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs or Pine counties, contact Lakes & Pines Community Action Council, Inc. for more information. Call (800) 832-6082 or (320) 679-1800 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and ask for Energy Assistance (TDD available), or write to Lakes & Pines, 1700 Maple Avenue East, Mora, MN 55051.
