No cost MNsure help available
Assistance is available for individuals and businesses that sign up for MNsure health care coverage, Minnesota’s version of the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to Obamacare.
Joan Madsen Kirchner, the Community Services Advocate from Lakes and Pines, spoke to the Moose Lake Chamber of Commerce Board at its meeting on Thursday, December 12 to explain that she comes to Moose Lake every other week to help people navigate the MNsure.org website and choose the health care coverage that best fits their needs and budget.
“I help people with entering information on the website,” said Kirchner. “If people are eligible for Medical Assistance, they can get health care coverage virtually for free. First, I look to see if the person is eligible for Medical Assistance, then if they are eligible for MinnesotaCare.
“The idea is to get people to the doctor if they don’t have insurance to catch problems earlier. Everybody needs to be insured. One of the top three killers in Minnesota is no health insurance.”
The open enrollment period for MNsure is October 1, 2013, to March 31, 2014, with coverage beginning on January 1, 2014.
Kirchner urged people or business representatives to call her at (320) 679-1800, extension 160, and leave a message.
“I am not always at that number, but I check my messages regularly,” she said.
Kirchner will be at Hope Lutheran in Moose Lake on Monday, December 30, in the morning, and mornings on every other Monday. For assistance, call her to set up an appointment.
