The Moose Lake Area Rebels girls hockey team is off to a fast start on the season, with three away games last week.
They opened their season by beating Pequot Lakes 5-2 on Tuesday night. On Thursday, they had a game closer to home, in Proctor, and fell to Proctor-Hermantown (PH) 5-3. On Saturday, they traveled down to Minnehaha Academy and won 4-0.
The Rebels (2-1) are expected to be one of the better teams in Class 7A this year, with many top returners, and several younger players who are already making an impact on the team this year.
Against Pequot Lakes, Jessica Bird had two goals while Andrea Youngberg had an assist and a goal. Cheyanne Wilson and Asia Gobel each had a goal, with Mackenzie Louzek, Sage Gerard and Karina Cisar each adding assists. Goalie Cassie White stopped 15 of 17 shots on goal in the win.
Against PH, the Rebels had a very competitive game and were tied 3-3 in the third period before falling.
Jessica Bird had a goal and two assists, while Andrea Youngberg tallied a goal and an assist in the game. Jamie Bird also scored.
In net, White stopped 28 of 33 shots in the game in which the Rebels were out shot by a 33-17 margin.
No statistics were available for the Minnehaha game at deadline.
This week, the Rebels have three games at home. They faced Duluth on Tuesday. Local fans can see them on Thursday when they face Pequot Lakes again at 7 p.m. They will also host New Ulm at 2 p.m. on Saturday. On Tuesday, November 26, they will also host Eveleth-Gilbert at 7:30 p.m.
