A retirement reception was recently held for Dr. Barb Reed.

A retirement reception was held for Dr. Barb Reed on Thursday, November 14 at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake.

Dr. Reed has been a medical provider in the Moose Lake area since 1987. She was a 1985 graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School. Her residency centered in family practice in Duluth. During her third year of her residency, she worked at Gateway Family Health Clinic in Moose Lake. Upon completion of her residency, she joined the Gateway practice.

Dr. Reed's initial practice at the clinic centered in obstetrics. During this time she developed an interest in emergency medicine, prompting her to change her focus.

She became the Director of Emergency Services at Mercy Hospital. She was also Chief of Staff at Mercy for a significant period of time. She was involved in many positive changes in the hospital's emergency department. After 10 years of service, she left the department to participate in family practice at Gateway.

Dr. Reed is highly respected in the community for offering compassionate service to area residents. During her reception, she was visited by many patients and staff members of Gateway Family Health Clinic and Mercy Hospital.

Dr. Reed's plans for retirement include spending time with her family, tending her goat herd, making dairy products for home use, running the farm with her husband, Christopher, and having the time to indulge in favorite activities.
