Willow River crash kills man

Second fatal accident in week

A 28-year-old Finlayson man died in a car accident near Willow River last week.

On Wednesday, Octobr 30, at 6:44 p.m., the Pine County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a vehicle accident near Long Lake Road and County Hwy. 61 in Willow River. The caller reported that there was one vehicle fully engulfed in flames and a trailer in the ditch.

Pine County Sheriff’s Deputies, Willow River Fire, State Patrol, Moose Lake Fire and Mercy Ambulance responded to the scene. There was a Ford pickup truck in the ditch with a trailer still attached to the truck.

Deputies were informed that the truck was occupied by one person. At that time the truck was unapproachable due to the fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and deputies determined that one person in the truck was deceased.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The deceased has been identified as Wesley John Lorance Colsrud, 28, of Finlayson. A memorial for Colsrud was held on Tuesday at Methven Funeral Home in Sandstone.

This was the second fatal accident involving a Pine County resident in less than a week.

On October 27, an 8-year-old Pine City girl was killed in an auto accident in Scott County. Laura Maloney was a passenger in a truck that was pulling a horse trailer on Hwy. 169. A smaller car slowed down, and the truck could not stop in time, which caused the driver to go into the ditch and the trailer landed on top of the truck.
