County to update Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan

Carlton County has received a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to prepare an update of its multi-jurisdictional, Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan (MHMP). Carlton County staff will convene a Planning Team in October to participate in updating the county’s plan. The Planning Team will be comprised of elected leaders and stakeholders from agencies and organizations involved in emergency planning and response.

Open public meetings will be scheduled in the spring of 2014 to engage local residents, businesses, agencies and organizations, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the plan, ask questions and provide feedback on mitigation strategies and recommended actions for implementation.

For further information on the Carlton County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, contact Brian Belich, Carlton County Emergency Manager, at (218) 384-9518 or brian.belich@co.carlton.mn.us.

The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC) is facilitating the development of the Carlton County MHMP in cooperation with staff at the University of Duluth’s Geospacial Analysis Center, who are providing technical assistance on the project.

The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission is a regional comprehensive planning and development agency serving the counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake and St. Louis in Northeast Minnesota.
