Bombers continue to soar
The Barnum Bombers were again on the road, this time taking the drive to East Central to take on the Eagles.
The game began with the Eagles receiving the ball on their own 26 yard line. The Eagles got the ball down to their 35 yard line before turning the ball over on down, giving the Bombers great field position.
The Bombers worked the ball down the field and ended with a Brandon Newman 3-yard touchdown run. Cody Shelgren was tackled in the backfield on the 2-point conversion. The Bombers then kicked off the ball; it was a line drive to one of the Eagles players, then was deflected and recovered by Bombers Parker Shelgren and Colton Ziegler. The Bombers came up short on this drive, being forced to punt the ball away.
The Eagles received the ball deep in their own side. The Eagles put together a very nice drive, but came up short and were forced to turn the ball over on downs.
The Bombers took over on their 23 yard line. On a 3rd and 8, the Bombers attempted a pass that was intercepted by the Eagles. The Eagles took over on the Bombers' 35 yard line.
The Eagles fumbled the ball on a 4th and 12 situation and the Bombers recovered on the quick reaction of Ziegler. The Bombers took over on the 47 yard line. Zach Peterson, Shelgren and Zac Carlson took turns marching the ball down the field to set up an 8-yard touchdown run by Newman, followed by a Newman 2-point conversion to take the Bombers into a 14-0 lead at half time.
The Bombers started the second half with the ball. Newman lined up deep for the Eagles' kickoff. Newman received the ball at the 17 yard line and ran it back out 23 yards to give the Bombers a nice start at their 40 yard line. The Bombers pounded and ground the ball out to the Eagles' 6 yard line, where there was a fumble, recovered by the Eagles.
The Eagles began to march the ball down-field, but on a pass Bomber Ziegler intercepted it and ran the ball back 54 yards. The trio of Bombers Shelgren, Carlson and Peterson took over and pounded the ball down the field ending with a Shelgren touchdown and 2-point conversion.
The Eagles received the ball on their 31 yard line and began to try to push the ball down-field by passing it. The Eagles would fair no better with their passing game and the Bombers took over on downs on the Eagles' 47 yard line.
The Bombers again began to move the ball, but the Bombers were be plagued with yet another fumble with the Eagles recovering the ball.
The Eagles' offense was not be able to find an answer to the Bombers' defense and again turned the ball over on downs. The Bombers marched the ball up-field and set up a 2-yard run by Newman to give the Bombers a 28-0 lead. The 2-point conversion again failed.
The Bombers advance to a 2-0 season, hosting Hinckley-Finlayson on Friday the 13th.
