Rebels to send one to state

Rebel Gabe Douglas is headed to the state golf tournament.

The Moose Lake-Willow River girls finished third and the boys fifth at the 15-team Section 7AA golf meet held at the Pokegema Golf Course in Grand Rapids on Friday, May 31. The Hibbing Bluejackets came out on top for the girls, while the Hermantown Hawks were victorious for the boys.

Senior Kayla Larson finished tied for ninth overall (97, 100). The top five individuals beyond the winning team scores also advance to the state tournament. Larson finished tied for that fifth spot after 36 holes. She came up short in an exciting three-hole playoff with Katie West of International Falls. The fairways were lined with family and numerous golfers who were cheering for both girls. The Rebels wish Kayla well as she ended her six-year varsity career in style. Sophomore Lindsay Loehlein finished strong only two strokes short of joining Larson in the playoff, finishing 10th overall (101, 98). Other scores were Alexis Babcock (210), Sage Gerard (210), and Future-Hope Vang at (231).

Sophomore Gabe Douglas is headed to the state tournament! Douglas finished tied for third overall (77,76). His last 18 holes were a nail-biter, which included an eagle and a hole-in-one. Junior Grant Douglas (79,79) finished ninth overall, missing the fifth place individual qualifier by two shots. Gavin Douglas (84, 89) finished 32nd. He was the only seventh grader to make it to the section finals. The state tournament will be held at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan on June 11 and 12. Let’s rally some community support for Gabe as he makes the trip south.
