Girls stroke into second

The Barnum Bombers girls golf team took to the course May 28 with a slight lead over Mille Lacs, only up by six strokes.

The Barnum Bombers girls golf team took second in Section 7A play May 28, falling to Mille Lacs.

They teed off at the 10 hole, where it seemed everyone had difficulties, with players on both teams hitting out of bounds or into the water.

Barnum and Mille Lacs stayed neck and neck throughout most of the day, with the Bombers holding a slight lead until the second from the last players came in. Then it was tied with just one player from each team left to come in.

The final two players came in and decided the tournament. The Bombers' eighth grade Jamie Bird came just a little short of Mille Lacs senior Amy Bolin, by nine strokes, giving the Mille Lacs team the bid for the team competition in Becker's Pine Creek golf state tournament.

The Bombers were not out, though, with Kelsey Timm and Jamie Bird both finishing well enough to compete in the girls' individual rounds at state.

State competition is set for June 11 and 12. This accomplishment marks a nice season for the lady Bombers, considering this is only the second year Barnum has had a golf program.
