Barnum and Moose Lake’s Early Childhood Programs have collaborated for another year to host their 4th Annual “Transportation Night and Spaghetti Dinner.” All the funds are divided between the two programs and used to help enhance their Early Childhood Programs.
This year, the community-wide event will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Carlton County Fairgrounds in Barnum.
Attending Transportation Night is free. The fundraiser portion is a dinner of spaghetti, breadsticks, coleslaw, and a beverage at a suggested donation of $5 per adult, $3 per child, with a $20 maximum per family.
They also have many baskets that will be drawn for. This year, the theme baskets are titled “Dog Lovers,” including dog treats, collars, leashes, dog toys, shampoo, and flea bath all wrapped into a puppy bed and made by a parent; “Beach Time,” consisting of beach toys, towels, snacks, and fun sand games; “Rainy Day Basket” entailing books, puzzles, movies, coloring books, large motor games, recipes for homemade moon sand, water beads, play-doh and more; “Gardening with Kids” is a flower pot stuffed with seeds, tools, bulbs, bird feeders, bug kits, watering cans and flower books; “Arts and Crafts” is jam packed full of craft projects and materials for families to assemble together; and a “Baby and Toddler Night-Night Basket” with items needed to make bedtime the best part of the day. Finally, the biggest basket this year is the “Nook/Reading Basket.” This basket has a brand-new Nook and books for everyone to enjoy. The baskets are drawn by tickets that can be purchased throughout the evening. (must be present to win).
Some new vehicles are coming this year, including the Moose Lake Hockey Association zamboni, a flyover from Larry Peterson’s airplane, and the Carlton County Mounted Posse.
Returning this year are Byron Kuster and Becky Lief-Kuster’s bike and trike obstacle course, “Pedaling for a Purpose.” Also returning are the Carlton County Transportation Department's grader, the Barnum and Moose Lake fire departments' trucks as well as vehicles from Como, Federated, Johnson Underground, Nordstrom’s Sanitation, Mercy Ambulance, Smitty’s, Lake Country Power, and the snow groomer, school buses, the TJ’s Wurst Bus and more. There will be a wide variety of vehicles from bikes to dump trucks to tractors to buses.
A DJ will provide dinner music and family fun dances. Hula hoops will be available for the children to hula to the music.
Gracious people have donated their time and vehicles for everyone to look at, climb on, touch, and hear the sounds of. Others have donated food, products, and money to help cover the costs of food, supplies, and materials for the baskets.
