Bombers fly past Eagles
The Barnum Bombers boys basketball team started out slow against the Northland Eagles on March 11.
Zach Carlson took command of the first half of the game, putting up the first seven points for the Bombers. It took several minutes before Brandon Newman finally found his spark and began to go into the lane to score. He struggled with his shooting from long range. Daniel Warpula never seemed to get the flow going. He ran defence and set up plays but his shots just would not fall.
Carlson led the Bombers in the first half with 12 of the Bombers' 30 first half points, followed by Newman with eight points. Sam Anderson added four points, while Nicholas Jelinek connected from outside the arc for three points. Tory Slater added two points, and finally Warpula went to the line to sink a single free throw. The Bombers headed into halftime with a 30-20 lead over the Eagles.
In the second half, the Eagles put on the pressure but the Bombers showed they were ready for it. Newman stepped up in the second half to lead the Bombers' scoring, with Carlson continuing to put up points as well. Warpula seemed content to sit back and let Newman and Carlson lead, putting up shots but they missed their mark.
The Bombers flew past the Eagles with a final score of 65-43.
Newman led the Bombers in scoring with 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Carlson added 20 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Anderson put up eight points, seven rebounds, one assist and two steals. Warpula settled for five points, three rebounds, five assists and five steals. Slater added four points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Jelinek also put up four points, six rebounds and one steal. Dakotah Haley came off the bench to add two points.
