Developer acquires school property for retail development
A purchase agreement was approved at the February 13 city council meeting between the city of Moose Lake and the Moose Lake School District to purchase approximately 20 acres of land that extends from the Little Store halfway down the Highway 73 corridor toward Moose Lake. Also at that meeting, a purchase agreement was approved to sell that 20 acres to Brian Weidendorf, Chief Proprietor of Land and Lease Development, LLC.
Brian Weidendorf is reported as stating he plans to construct a McDonald’s on that purchased site. Weidendorf has developed McDonald’s sites in many towns, some nearby are Hinckley and Mora. Weidendorf intends to develop outlots for retail sites as well as a 12-acre site for a larger retail development. The development agreement includes building one business by 2014, with others to be added over the next seven years.
The McDonald's site should accrue some $25,000+ in tax revenue annually on the approximately $1 million building. The restaurant will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and expects to employ some 50+ full and part-time employees.
The Moose Lake School District still owns about 160 acres of land in that area with hopes of constructing a new school in the future.
