Moose Lake Area goalie Kaitlyn Greene blocks the puck from entering the Rebels' goal. During the regular season, Greene was among the area leaders with a .909 saves percentage average.
The last time the Moose Lake Area girls played the Hibbing-Chisholm Bluejackets, the results were 7-2, and it was on the Range. This time it was for a chance to advance to the championship to see who would go to the State Tournament from Section 7A.
The Rebels did lose to the Bluejackets, but not by nearly as much with a 3-1 defeat at Northwoods Arena in Cloquet on Tuesday, February 12. MLA ended its season with one of its best records in recent years at 16-10-3.
MLA was out-shot 32-13 in the game, with Kaitlyn Greene making 29 saves. Amanda Klennert had 12 saves for H-C.
Unfortunately, there were no details in what was a somewhat penalty-laden and interesting game available from HockeyHub. The following is from the Duluth News-Tribune. MLA did have two or three 5-3 advantages that they were unable to convert upon.
There was no scoring in the first period. The first goal of the second stanza did not come until 8:30. Only about a minute later, at 9:08, was another goal, for 2-0, Hibbing-Chisholm. Another connected for 3-0 at 14-24.
Rebel Andrea Youngberg scored the third period’s only goal. Jessica Bird got the assist. The goal was 10:46 to spoil the shut-out and close out the scoring at 3-1.
