Wanted felon shot by police
On Sunday evening, February 3, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a Pine County deputy assisted the Minnesota State Patrol in an attempt to arrest a wanted felon at a home on Water Lily Road in rural Pine County.
During the attempted apprehension, a confrontation occurred in the yard of the home and the suspect fled in a vehicle. The wanted felon sped towards officers who were on foot, in slippery conditions, in the path of the speeding vehicle.
Fearing for their safety, the officers fired at the vehicle. Several shots were fired by both officers and the fleeing felon was struck once. The suspect continued fleeing northbound on Wildlife Road with officers in pursuit. About one mile from the scene of the shooting, the suspect’s vehicle was forced into the ditch and he was taken into custody.
The suspect was transported to Essentia Hospital in Sandstone for treatment of a gunshot wound to the hand. The Pine County deputy and the State Trooper were not injured. This investigation is being lead by the Minnesota Bureau Criminal Apprehension, at the request of the Pine County sheriff, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and the Pine County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect has been identified as Louis Ralph Workman, Jr. Workman also has several aliases. He is currently being held in reference to a felony warrant. Further charges are pending.
