Homeowner confronts burglar
On Thursday, January 24, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Carlton County dispatch received a 911 call from a homeowner that located and confronted an unknown individual inside the homeowner's house in Thomson Township.
Carlton County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of the burglary in progress. Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies located an adult male that the homeowner had detained prior to contacting 911. Deputies arrested the individual for burglary and assault, amongst other crimes. Ultimately, the suspect was transported to the Carlton County Jail where he is being held pending formal charges.
After further investigation, the suspect is believed to be responsible for burglaries in neighboring jurisdictions as well. The suspect, a 44-year-old male from Hibbing identified as William Peter Lushenko, was arrested for first degree burglary, third degree assault, interference with a 911 call and criminal damage to property.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, Hibbing Police Department and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the matter at this time.
