Bombers split against Tigers
The Barnum Bomber basketball teams hit the road again December 29, this time taking the ride to Pine River to take on the Tigers. The afternoon began with the Bomber girls taking the court first.
Cheyanne Johnson started the shooting for the Bombers, hitting from beyond the arc for the first of many of her three-pointers on the afternoon. The Bombers trailed by 10 points at halftime, 28-18, with 17 of the 18 points coming from Johnson with five shots from beyond the arc and two from the paint. The other point for the Bombers in the first half came from Lissa Warpula from the free throw line.
The Bombers were not able to keep up with the Tigers. Johnson struggled in the second half, scoring only once from beyond the arc. Daron Mainville finally got on the score board but only managed to put up 6 points on the afternoon, while Warpula added another point from the free throw line.
The Bombers fell in the end by a score of 61-27.
The Bomber boys followed in the second game of the double header on the afternoon. Brandon Newman was the first to score for the Bombers. Daniel Warpula was on the board shortly afterward, and the two of them began to dominate the game for the Bombers.
Dakota Haley got into the scoring collum with three points in the first half. The Bombers first half scoring would finish with Zach Carlson going to the free throw line to put up 2 points just before halftime. The Bombers led the way into halftime with a score of 30-17.
The Bombers came out of halftime ready to continue their run against the Tigers. Newman once again began the scoring, striking right a way. Carlson also came out in the second half adding 8 points.
The game ended with the Bomber boys taking a commanding lead over the Tigers, 67-34. Warpula put up 24 points. Newman had 20 points. Carlson put up 10 points. Haley had 5 points. Tory Slater put up 2 points, followed by Mitchell Weller with 2 points, John Zymslony with 2 points and Chase Peterson with 2 points.
