Bombers take down Wolves in shutout
Bomber Brandon Newman runs through a large hole for big yardage.
The Barnum Bombers football team had five different players scoring with Zach Peterson and Colton Selix leading the way in a 55-0 shutout of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in the semifinals of Section 7A played in Barnum on Saturday, October 27. The 8-2 and 6-0 conference champion Bombers led 42-0 at halftime.
Peterson had bookend touchdown runs of seven and three yards on each side of a three-yard run by Selix. With two runs for points by Selix being good and the last effort failing, it was 22-0 after just a quarter of play.
Daniel Warpula raced 41 yards for a score and the pass for points failed for 28-0. Selix got his second TD run on a three-yard score and Warpula ran for the points for 36-0. Brandon Newman closed out the first half scoring with a five-yard run and with the run for points failing, it was 42-0 at the break.
Mitchell Weller was the fourth Bomber to score as he had the first score of the third quarter on a three-yard run. With the kick failing, it was 48-0. Zac Carlson tacked on a late scored as he had a fourth frame fumble recovery returned for 70 yards. Seth Vogt hit the kick for the final score of 55-0.
The 8-2 and 6-0 Bombers, whose only losses were to Moose Lake-Willow River and Cloquet to start the season, will try to make it eight in a row as they take on the 8-1 Cook County Vikings. The game on Saturday, November 1 at Duluth Public Schools Stadium should be a very good battle as Cook County’s only loss, conference or otherwise, was to Barnum back on September 14.
