Three children hospitalized, man arrested
According to a press release from the Carlton County Sheriff's Office, three children have been hospitalized and one man arrested following an October 19 ATV accident.
At approximately 4 p.m. October 19, Carlton County dispatch received a 911 call regarding an accident with injuries involving an ATV and a semi tractor/trailer on County Road 6 near Automba Township.
Carlton County deputies, Minnesota State Patrol, Mercy ambulance and Kettle River first responders responded to the scene of the accident. Ultimately, the driver and two occupants of the ATV — all of which were juveniles, ages 14, 10 and 9 — were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital for treatment.
After further investigation, the driver of the semi tractor/trailer, a 69-year-old male from Cromwell identified as Donald McDougall Clark Jr., was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the Carlton County jail pending formal charges, as alcohol appears to be a contributing factor to the accident. Clark was not injured as a result of the accident.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Minnesota State Patrol are continuing to investigate.
