Pender, Disterhaupt, Young lead Rebels over Rush City

Statistics were recently received for the Moose Lake-Willow River versus Rush City football game played on Friday, October 5. Michael Pender, Jake Disterhaupt and Jerry Young led a Rebels offense that ran for 491 yards in a 62-20 rout of the Tigers in Rush City. As a team, the Rebels averaged 16.93 yards per carry of the pigskin.

Pender had 133 yards on six carries (22.17 per carry); Disterhaupt had 116 on six carries (19.33); Young had 67 yards on seven carries (9.57); Michael Gassert added 61 yards on eight carries (7.63); Alex Kenmore had one carry for 62 yards; and Ben Moonen had one carry for 52 yards.

The first quarter had Disterhaupt scoring first on a 46-yard run with Moonen hitting the kick. Disterhaupt, on an 11-yard run scored again and it was also Moonen with another successful PAT. Tony Adamczak, who went 3-for-5 passing in the game for 37 yards and one TD, hooked up with Isaac Coil for a 30-yard TD and again Moonen nailed the kick as Moose Lake-Willow River rushed and passed its way to a 21-0 lead after one quarter of play.

The second frame found Rush City being able to score on a six-yard rushing TD, but their extra point kick missed. Pender roared back and broke free for a 65-yard TD with Moonen adding another PAT for 28-6. Young got in the end zone on a 20-yard interception return for a TD and Moonen made it 4-for-4 on PATs for 35-6.

Young was the first to score in the third quarter on a two-yard run. Moonen missed his only kick of the night, but it was 41-6, ML-WR. Rush City got free for a 24-yard TD and made the two-point conversion for 41-14. Moonen took off on a 52-yard sprint and although the two-point conversion failed, it was 47-14, Rebels.

Josh Pettersen sent the game to running time with an 18-yard run for a TD and Brad Fossum ran in the two-point conversion for 55-14. Rush City was able to score once more on an eight-yard but the points failed for 55-20 to keep the clock at running time. David Moonen scored four yards out for the final score of 61-20 as the two-point conversion failed.

Adamczak was 3-for-5 for 37 yards, one TD and no interceptions; Coil caught a 30-yard TD pass; and Pender had one catch for seven yards as the Rebels are continuing to show they can pass successfully.

Young had nine stops; Jeremiah Chavez had seven tackles; Moonen made six stops; and Ezra Szczyrbak also had six tackles. Szczyrbak had two quarterback sacks and one fumble recovery to lead the Rebels defense. Young had one interception returned 20 yards for a TD.
