Moose Lake Area Food Shelf coordinated a community effort to help local families with school supplies — 152 students from 65 families were given backpacks filled with some of the supplies needed for their grade level in their school.
Supplies included pencils, notebooks, scissors, glue, crayons, markers, rulers, folders, and mats for kindergartners. Distribution was through the Moose Lake Area Food Shelf. Volunteer Barb Peck noted, “We got a whole lot of gratitude and the best part was the kids’ smiles.”
This project was made possible by generous support from the Moose Lake Kiwanis, Sonshine Pantry, Moose Lake Flood Relief Fund as well as the Moose Lake Area Food Shelf.
The Moose Lake Area Food Shelf serves families in southern Carlton and northern Pine counties. The backpacks went to children enrolled in the Barnum, Moose Lake and Willow River school districts.
Moose Lake Area Food Shelf is open Friday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is located in the basement of Joe Jitters in downtown Moose Lake; use the alley entrance. For more information on the food shelf, call Roseanne Pliml at (218) 382-0058. Donations to the food shelf can be sent to P.O. Box 128, Moose Lake, MN 55767.
